$147,000,000,000 is the estimated medical care costs of obesity in the United States in 2008. Obesity is common, serious and costly. According to the CDC about 2.4 million more adults were obese in 2009 than in 2007. For the first time in our country's history more than 15% of adults are obese in every state. Even more startling is that an estimated 25 million children are overweight. Michelle Obama has made childhood obesity her #1 priority. Why? Michelle Obama knows, with the rising cost of health care, obesity may be the most serious problem our country faces.
Here at Physician for Living we are serious about treating obesity. We start with a thorough evaluation including metabolic testing and body analysis. We individualize your diet and exercise plan. For some patients we may start a prescription appetite suppressant. We recheck vital signs, weight and body composition weekly and adjust your plan accordingly. Adjustments may include increasing protein in your diet, increasing personal training, increasing, decreasing or adding on other medications. Every client and program is different.
My goal is to help clients lose fat not muscle, lower blood pressure, lower blood sugar, improve insulin resistance, improve cholesterol, improve sleep apnea, lower risk of heart attack and stroke, decrease depression, decrease back pain, decrease the pain from arthritis, increase strength and over all help you start living.
I am a finisher of five marathons, two half-ironman triathlons, and four full ironman event, a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. My mother started a Diet Center in 1974 when I was 8 years old. She dieted thousands of people in Utah. Physical fitness and weight loss have been a part of my life for over 35 years. So which diet do I think is best? I like to keep it simple. Basically, a diet high in protein to help maintain muscle mass and stabilize insulin levels, good fats and most important — good low glycemic carbohydrates, not sugar. How do you keep your body burning calories and not decreasing your metabolism? You have to do a little exercise. I recommend at least 1 full body resistance workout and about 2 easy recovery workouts per week. If you are not sure how to do this you need a personal trainer. This can be done in our own private gym with our personal trainers. Another gym in the area that I would recommend would be Anytime Fitness owned by Rob and Krista Myers.
The cost of obesity to our country and to your own personal life is staggering. Here at Physician for Living we are here to help you lose weight, improve your health and start living.
